I am a young, petite female above knee amputee with a very short limb. I lost my left leg as an infant due to a blood clot. I have always worn a hip disartic style prosthesis with a safety knee. I experienced lots of back pain and heat rash. My clothes never fit right because of the extra bulk. I was very self-conscience about my walk and appearance.

Advanced Prosthetics helped  me to get a C-leg and fit me with a lock & pin suspension prosthesis. The reduced weight of the prosthesis has greatly lessened my back discomfort and improved my gait. The prosthesis more clearly matches my silhouette, so my clothes fit better. I feel so much more confident in my appearance.

Thanks to Phillip, Scot and Advanced Prosthetics!

I have been an above the knee amputee since 1985. When I moved to South Carolina last year I was very worried about finding someone to take care of my prosthetic needs.

I went to the Easley office to meet with Scot Thompson. Everyone at Advanced Prosthetics made me feel welcome and very much at ease. Scot was knowledgeable, helpful, and kind. I was comfortable asking him anything, and telling him that I would like to get a different knee. Together we determined the best microprocessor controlled knee for me. Scot was extremely sensitive to my capabilities and needs as an AK amputee. I am so excited about my Plie MPC knee and the improvements it will make in my life.

I am getting older but I want to remain active and independent for years to come. Thank you Scot for making my world so much brighter. I am so lucky I found Advanced Prosthetics!

Timothy's Story

Timothy Rhinehart is a native South Carolinian. He grew up trail riding and playing "Cowboys and Indians" on horseback with his mother in Kings Mountain State Park. As a teenager, he began bull riding and became very involved in several rodeo circuits. Then, at the age of 24, he had a horrible car accident and lost his right leg just below the knee. After months of recuperation and physical therapy, he was finally ready for his first prosthetic leg. He finally found South Carolina Vocational Rehabilitation, and through them found Scot Thompson, CP with Advanced Prosthetics. Scot has been a gift from God, offering advice and instruction every step of the way. When there was no one to help with funding, Scot made the first two temporary legs at no cost to Timothy. SC Vocational Rehab helped to cover the cost of the first permanent leg. After even more rehab, Timothy was finally able to go back to work 11 months after the accident. He started part time, working 2-3 hours a day, and gradually built up to 40 hours a week over the course of two months. He is a welder by trade and, like thousands of others in this country, was caught in a round of lay offs due to the recession. After submitting hundreds of applications, he has finally found a temporary job, but continues to search for a permanent job in the welding industry.
