We provide a wide range of prosthetic devices and services to support patients at every stage of their journey:
Mobility Ratings
In the field of prosthetics, we rate mobility levels of amputees by something called amputee K-levels. These levels range from K0 to K4 and they are a classification system used by healthcare professionals—especially prosthetists and insurance providers—to determine an amputee’s functional mobility potential and what type of prosthetic components are appropriate. These levels were established by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). Here’s a breakdown:
No Mobility Potential
- Description: The individual does not have the ability or potential to ambulate (walk) or transfer safely with or without assistance.
- Use of Prosthesis: A prosthesis would not enhance mobility or quality of life.
- Example: Bedridden or extremely limited individuals with no rehabilitation potential.
Limited Household Ambulator
- Description: The individual has the ability or potential to use a prosthesis for transfers or ambulation on level surfaces at a fixed cadence.
- Use of Prosthesis: Primarily for basic mobility indoors.
- Example: Elderly person using a prosthesis to walk short distances at home.
Limited Community Ambulator
- Description: The individual has the ability or potential for low-level environmental barriers (e.g., curbs, stairs, uneven surfaces).
- Use of Prosthesis: Suitable for limited community ambulation.
- Example: Someone who can walk around their neighborhood or grocery store but may require assistive devices like a cane.
Unlimited Community Ambulator
- Description: The individual can ambulate with variable cadence and is capable of community mobility, including navigating most environmental barriers.
- Use of Prosthesis: Capable of prosthetic use beyond simple locomotion, including vocational, therapeutic, or exercise activity.
- Example: A person who can return to work or engage in recreational activities with their prosthesis.
High-Activity User (Athlete or Child)
- Description: The individual has the ability or potential for high-impact, high-energy activities beyond basic ambulation.
- Use of Prosthesis: Suitable for athletes, active adults, or children engaged in demanding physical activities.
- Example: Competitive runner or highly active youth.

Comprehensive Upper Extremity Prosthetic Services
Advanced Prosthetics & Orthotics provides custom upper extremity prosthetic solutions designed to restore independence, function, and confidence. Whether you're in need of a partial hand, transradial (below-elbow), transhumeral (above-elbow), or shoulder-level prosthesis, our certified clinicians will work closely with you to design a prosthetic system that fits your lifestyle and goals. We offer a full range of advanced options, including myoelectric prosthetics, body-powered devices, and hybrid systems—each crafted for comfort, control, and durability. Serving patients throughout North and South Carolina, including Charlotte, Columbia, Greenville, and surrounding communities, we’re here to support your journey every step of the way.
Myoelectric Prostheses
Myoelectric prostheses utilize electrical signals from the remaining muscles in the residual limb to control the prosthetic device. These advanced prosthetics offer intuitive control and are suitable for various amputation levels, including below-elbow (transradial) and above-elbow (transhumeral) amputations.
Body-Powered Prostheses
Body-powered prostheses rely on the user's body movements to operate the device. These durable and reliable prosthetics are often used for partial hand, wrist, and elbow amputations, providing functional solutions for various activity levels.
Hybrid Systems
Combining the benefits of myoelectric and body-powered components, hybrid systems offer enhanced functionality and adaptability. These systems are ideal for individuals requiring a balance between intuitive control and durability.
Partial Hand Prosthetics
For individuals with partial hand amputations, we provide custom solutions to restore functionality and appearance. Our partial hand prosthetics are designed to meet the specific needs of each patient, enabling them to perform daily tasks with confidence.

Advanced Prosthetic Technology
We utilize state-of-the-art technology to create prosthetic solutions that are both functional and comfortable:
- Digital Scanning and 3D Printing: Employing cutting-edge techniques to design and fabricate precise prosthetic components.
- Microprocessor-Controlled Joints: Devices that adapt to the user's movements, providing smoother and more stable motion.
